For Homeowners

Many properties, especially in rural areas, are not connected to mains drainage. These homes rely on a septic tank, sewage treatment plant or cesspit, often draining to a soakaway or drainage field. Homes on the mains still own the private drains inside their boundary.

The problems we see most often are tanks that fill too quickly or back up into the house, soakaways that leave the garden boggy, tree roots in the pipework, cracked or collapsed drains, and systems that no longer meet the General Binding Rules.

We survey the system, explain what we found in a factual report and only recommend the work it needs. If the damage may be covered by your buildings insurance, our in-house claims team can check your eligibility, help with the claim and carry out the approved repair or replacement.

For Estate Agents

Agents selling or letting homes with private drainage need to know the system will not hold up a sale. The usual sticking points are septic tanks that may not meet the General Binding Rules, little or no paperwork on how the system works, and survey findings that surface late in the transaction.
