Drainage Support for Every Kind of Home

Many properties, especially in rural areas, are not connected to mains drainage. These homes rely on a septic tank, sewage treatment plant or cesspit, often draining to a soakaway or drainage field. Homes on the mains still own the private drains inside their boundary.

Most homeowners only think about their drainage when something goes wrong. The system sits underground and out of sight, so it is hard to know its condition, whether it meets current rules or what a fix should cost.

UKDP has worked on mains and off-mains drainage since 2009. We find out what is happening, explain it clearly and only recommend the work your system needs.

Common Drainage Problems Homeowners Face

These are the problems homeowners call us about most often. Each one links to the service that deals with it.

Septic tank backing up

Slow toilets, gurgling drains or sewage coming back into the house usually point to a full tank, a blocked outlet or a failing soakaway. We find the cause and arrange septic tank repairs.

Boggy garden or failing soakaway

Standing water, smells or soggy ground near the soakaway mean it can no longer absorb the wastewater. We investigate and repair or replace the soakaway.

Tree roots in tanks and pipes

Roots can crack tanks and block pipes. We remove them with root cutting and repair the damage, which your insurance may cover.

Cracked or collapsed drains

Blocked, cracked or collapsed pipework causes repeat blockages and leaks. A CCTV survey shows exactly where the problem is before any digging starts.

Systems that no longer comply

Many older septic tanks that discharge to a ditch or stream do not meet the General Binding Rules. A compliance survey tells you where you stand and what to do next.

Old or failed systems

When a tank is beyond repair, we plan a septic tank replacement or new sewage treatment plant to suit your property and ground conditions.

UKDP had been monitoring our problems with root ingress and decided the treatment plant would need replacing. They offered to manage the insurance claim, which they did very successfully. I had very little to do. Real specialists!

How UKDP Helps Homeowners

Every job follows the same clear steps, so you know what is happening and what it will cost before any work starts.

  1. Tell us what is happening

Call or send us a message. Our customer team asks about your property, your drainage system and the problem, then decides the right next step.

  2. We inspect the system

An engineer inspects the system and gathers evidence. Septic tanks usually need emptying first so the inside of the tank can be checked.

  3. We explain the findings

You receive a factual report, followed by a call from our technical team to talk through what we found.

  4. You get a clear quote

Where work is needed, we explain the solution, the price and the scope before you decide. If insurance may cover it, we check that first.

  5. We plan and do the work

A pre-works visit sets out how the job will run and what disruption to expect. Once you confirm, we agree a start date and complete the work.

  6. We sign it off with you

We check the finished work with you before closing the job and issuing the final invoice.

Could Your Home Insurance Cover the Damage?

Buildings insurance often covers sudden accidental damage to septic tanks, treatment plants, cesspits, soakaways and underground pipes. Common covered causes include tree roots, ground movement, collapsed baffles, vehicle impact and damaged dip pipes. Wear and tear, gradual deterioration and poor maintenance are usually excluded.

UKDP investigates the damage, writes the report your insurer needs, assists with your claim and liaises with the insurer. Our claims support is free. You pay only your policy excess. We have supported more than 2,000 successful claims for customers.
