UKDP in Action: A Shared Sewage Treatment Plant Installation
A failed septic tank serving five properties in Cheshire needed to be replaced. The shared arrangement required agreement between the property owners and a system with sufficient capacity for every household.
UKDP specified a 20 population sewage treatment plant and completed a pre-works visit to explain the excavation, site access and reinstatement. The installation required heavy machinery and significant groundworks, with care taken to position the plant correctly and limit lasting disruption to the surrounding garden.
The complete installation took four days. The new plant was levelled, connected and backfilled before the affected ground was prepared for reinstatement. The customer was pleased with both the communication and the standard of the completed work.

Ask our teamDo you cover my area?
Yes. UKDP provides drainage services across England, Scotland and Wales. Our own engineers are supported by a trusted nationwide partner network, allowing us to match the right local expertise to each project. The work is coordinated through UKDP, giving you one accountable team wherever the property is located.
Can I claim for a damaged septic tank on my insurance?
Eligible damage to a septic tank, sewage treatment plant or connected private drainage may be covered by buildings insurance. Cover depends on the cause of the damage, your policy wording and where responsibility for the system lies. UKDP can investigate the problem, assess whether a valid claim may exist and support you through the process.
What's the difference between a septic tank and a sewage treatment plant?
A septic tank separates and partially treats wastewater before discharging liquid into a suitable drainage field. A sewage treatment plant uses additional mechanical and biological processes to produce more highly treated effluent. The right system depends on the property, ground conditions, discharge arrangement, capacity requirements and current regulations.
How long does a new septic tank installation take?
The installation period depends on the tank size, ground conditions, access, excavation requirements, pipework and reinstatement. UKDP assesses these factors before work begins and explains the expected schedule during the pre-works stage. Once the scope is agreed, you receive a confirmed start date and clear information about likely disruption.
Do you use your own engineers or subcontractors?
UKDP uses its own engineers alongside a trusted network of established local partners across the UK. The team attending depends on the location, technical requirements and scale of the project. UKDP coordinates the work, manages communication and remains accountable for delivering the agreed drainage solution.
How do I know which drainage service I need?
You do not need to diagnose the problem before contacting UKDP. Our team will ask about the property, drainage system and symptoms to establish whether you need an inspection, survey, emptying visit or another assessment. The findings then determine whether cleaning, repair, replacement or installation is appropriate.
How much do UKDP drainage services cost?
Costs depend on the system, site conditions and work required. UKDP begins with an initial assessment and, where necessary, arranges a survey before providing a fixed quote based on the findings. Home buyer and home seller drainage surveys have fixed package prices, listed on the survey pages. Repairs, installations and other projects are priced individually.
What happens if a drainage survey finds a problem?
The report explains what was inspected, the defects found and what they mean for the property. UKDP then discusses the findings with you and recommends the appropriate next step. Where work is required, the technical team can prepare a clear quotation, but there is no obligation to proceed with the recommended repair or replacement.
