With the extreme weather the UK has seen in recent months, we’ve had an increase in calls relating to septic tanks or sewage treatment plants that have literally ‘popped’ out of the ground, or appear to have moved. This may only be by a matter of inches, but it can stop the system working properly, and needs to be dealt with urgently.
So, what causes this to happen?
When flooding occurs, the ground can become heavily saturated, and the pressure from the increased water on the septic tank or sewage treatment plant can force it to move upwards and out of the ground. This is often known as ‘hydrostatic pressure’.
